Character Development

,
In order to further develop the concept for my work I will look at existing visual representations of each of my archetypal characters. This will help to further develop their roles and enable me to see what changes are needed, if any.

Mother Nature

Current Bio
Nature: Good
Gender: Female
Age: Mature yet still beautiful
Role: Humanoid/God
Characteristics: Authoritative

Visual Representations

I tried to look for visual reference from a variety of cultures and eras so I was not limiting my reference material. Within my moodboard are representations of Rhea, Durga and Demeter who are all goddesses associated with the earth, motherhood and fertility. In these representations she is seen as a warrior and defender of the earth whilst the eastern representations often do not represent her as an individual, but as a personification integrated into the surroundings.

I found these alternative interpretations interesting as it adds a further level of complexity to the character design. She can be a strong, powerful character as well as motherly.

Maiden

Current Bio
Nature:  Good
Gender: Female
Age: Late teens, early twenties
Role: Human
Characteristics: Innocent

Visual Representations

In contrast to Mother Nature, it was very difficult to find alternative perceptions of the maiden as in every culture and era this character is established as being a good, innocent female by the nature of the role. However, I feel this may be rather two dimensional for the purposes of my project and I feel more interest to be added to the character.

On a visual note, the poses of the maiden are all very static and not overly dynamic. I would like to work on my ability to create interesting, dynamic poses for my maiden character.
