So I had my second presentation yesterday. Oddly I was more nervous for this one as I felt I had not made as much progress from week 4 to 8.
Feedback
The feedback from this presentation raised a few interesting questions and greatly helped clarify the direction I wish to move my project forward. During the presentation I had mentioned a need to finish the first media test. However we questioned the relevance of continuing this if I had already taking everything I needed to learn and draw from it. It became apparent that I don't necessarily need to finish it as my question is naturally moving away from the direction it was taking me.
Another point I made was my continued confusion as to the direction of my final piece. Whether it should take one scene and create this in lots of visual styles or to combining visual styles. It was suggested that perhaps neither method was right for my final outcome. These where relevant for media tests but the final outcome could contain so much more.
Instead it was suggested that the development should consist of developing my own visual style informed with inspiration from study of traditional and digital artists. Absorbing what I feel is relevant from these sources by judging them and my own work respectively, apply aesthetic criteria through this. What am I willing to take and use in my own work while still remaining unique? It is also important that I look into what is visually mass appealing and how this can be judged.
Reflection
I was provided with a great deal of guidance on how to move forward with my project and make the most of the information I am gaining. This presentation has focused my ideas and made it easier to plan ahead. To recap, my aims by the end of this project are as follows; find and judge aesthetic criteria, begin designing and creating work that leads to the final outcome of a compositional piece that shows unique visual style that is visually pleasing whilst containing mass appeal.
