As part of my research, I wanted to test the impact of combining two different visual styles on the overall appeal of the piece. Before making this combination I felt it would be good practice to first create an interpretation of each style. This enables me to compare my versions to the original artwork and therefore eliminate any possible skills gap that may have an effect of this media test. It also builds my skills at creating a diverse range of visual styles accurately.
For the first visual style I chose to look at the animated cartoon Adventure Time. I chose this as it is a very distinct style yet looked relatively simple to replicate.

For my interpretation I felt it would be nice to create a 'Water Kingdom' as this is something I am yet to see in the Adventure Time series. I felt it would add an element of challenge as I would have to interpret how I thought the waterfalls would look within this visual style.
As my aim is to replicate this visual style, the design elements will be dictated by the original reference images. However I still must apply the principles to ensure my interpretation is appealing. After gathering some reference material I began to plan the layout of my scene to ensure these principles, such as the balance and proportion, where met.
Finally, I created a rough colour palette using the original artwork as a guideline.Once I was happy with each of these elements it was time to create the piece.
